We are excited for the opportunity to welcome Zingo Munger, of Cape Classics, to show us some of the great wines from their portfolio. This dinner has been a long time in the making: Zingo has been a friend for more than 20 years, and over the course of that period, he has become something of a local wine legend. Zingo was one of the founders of Santé Wine, which really kickstarted the fine wine scene in North Carolina, about 30 years ago. Cape Classics started in 1992 as an importer of South African wines, and while those wines are better than ever, they aren’t really anything we can work with at Rue Cler. In the last few years, however, they have started to bring in some truly excellent wines from France (here you can definitely see Zingo’s fingerprints), and we are finally able to do a wine dinner together.
A few weeks ago, we sat down with Chef Todd Whitney, tasted through the wines, and discussed pairings for the dinner. The pioneering natural wines from Carême and Pacalet are old favorites that were out of the market for years, and the current wines are even more delicious than before. Vrignaud and La Réserve d’O are new to us, but we were really impressed. Chef Todd has already demonstrated his skill at creating the perfect pairing at recent dinners, so we can be confident his menu will be right on point. This is definitely going to be a blast, and we’re looking forward to seeing you!
