We are excited to welcome Jill Klien Matthiasson, of Matthiasson Wines, for what is sure to be another incredible dinner!
Jon Bonné crowned Steve Matthiasson winemaker of the year in 2014, but we had heard rumblings about his wines for a while before, from our friends out west. As one of the leading wineries of the New California Movement, Matthiasson is the go to viticulturist in Napa and Sonoma, specializing in sustainable farming techniques, and a restrained, elegant style of wine. Steve and Jill Klein both have backgrounds in farming, Jill having studied botany, Steve working in the vineyards and co-authoring a book on sustainable vineyard practices. A family owned and operated winery, which has rooted itself as one of the leaders of sustainable and organic farming, Matthiasson’s wines reflect the purity of the variety, as well as the specific sites in which they are grown. Offering classic representations of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, they also produce grapes unique to the area, such as Ribolla Gialla, Refosco, and Petit Verdot.
“Wine is made in the Vineyard” is the winemaking philosophy of Matthiasson. This attitude results in wines that are perfectly balanced and graceful, without sacrificing the natural power of California. These wines are a beautiful representation of the organic and sustainable farming practices which the Matthiassons espouse. Don’t miss this opportunity to sample some of these great wines, expertly paired by Chef Todd Whitney!
